Description:  This section begins at McDonald Pass and routes south towards Butte before turning east and remaining above the city to finish at Homestake Pass. This section follows the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) the entire distance. The route passes atop Thunderbolt Mountain and crosses Interstate 15 north of Butte and Interstate 90 east of the city. The route provides outstanding views of Butte as it passes east of the city.
